Our Business Journey: How We Went From A Startup To An International Company
At first, Intelligems was just a two-person business with a tiny revenue. How did we get from that to a full-scale custom software development firm?
It wasn't easy, that's for sure. But on our business journey, we've faced many issues that have taught a lot.
When we started our business we didn't have many funds. And we didn't have a steady business development flow. But we believed in ourselves.
As a two-person startup company, we split the tasks: one would handle the back end, another one the front end. We had to learn about business management, legal procedures, and bookkeeping. It took us a while, but we got there.
We booked our first project based entirely on honesty and sincerity towards the client. We believe that's the reason why he first put his trust in us. And, fun fact, we've been working with him ever since.
As we got more projects, our next challenge was growing our team. We knew we didn't want to become an old-school development company. That's why Intelligems is a remote-only firm. This means we don't have a physical office space. Instead, each employee is free to work from home — or coworking spaces.
We've experienced this lack of a physical space prompted us to work with great efficiency, and forced us to learn to use special software. We've grown very fond of Slack, Jira, Trello, Google Meet, and of course Github.
Not having an office to gather, brainstorm, and discuss projects on a daily basis has been a tough challenge. We're proud of how we managed to overcome this seeming difficulty. And we believe the skills we've learned will be essential in the near future.
At the moment, we are looking to expand our business to new frontiers. That's why we recently started focusing on marketing. Although we many clients and we're very happy with the current state of business, we believe there's much more work to be done.
Starting a business is never easy. The path is full of tough decisions and difficult moments. But we believed in ourselves and we went from a startup to an international software development firm.
